It’s estimated COVID-19 has cost ~$1 billion per day. Mis/disinformation accounts for 5-30% of this harm. But, there remains little consensus in the evidence on how to blunt the effects of online health misinformation or more generally, recalibrating commercial successes into robust public health impact.
DHDI conducts research and analysis to optimize public health impact in digital spaces. Priority focus areas include digital gender gaps after connectivity and unintentional online health misinformation spread.

Building Community Health Power through Digital Data Governance
The global digital health market will reach $456.9 billion by 2026-- with the largest segments allocated to improving health care efficiency. In this context and more general digital landscapes, digital data is now a heavily monetized resource fueling commercial industries. At the same time, digital data has become increasingly socially monetized in not-for-profit industries-- driving health resources and priorities among international actors.
DHDI works alongside civil society partners to build and support hyper-local community health data systems relevant to social and environmental influences on community health.

Repositioning Digital Strategies from Amplifying Health Disparities to Transforming Them
Most existing digital health tools are driven by for-profit models health and target individual-level health dynamics. But, individual behavior has a glass ceiling dependent on community determinants.
In response to this gap, DHDI works with partners to design digital tools responsive to social & environmental determinants of health among low-income & socially marginalized communities.
